Communion is offered to all baptized children of God, regardless of denominational background. Our Lord Jesus Christ is truly present in the bread and wine offering forgiveness, life and salvation to all who believe.
Rev. Elizabeth M. Hazelton was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1950, to the late Reverend Andrew Mazak and Anna Mazak who served the church as Lutheran missionaries. Pastor Betti is one of four children. Her brother Andrew and sister Ana are both Lutheran pastors. Her younger sister Martha is a registered pharmacist.
Pastor Betti is a graduate of Wittenberg University (1972) where she double majored in History and Religion with a minor in Education. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies from John Carroll University (1985) where she was named Outstanding M.A. Recipient in the Religion Department. She began her seminary studies at Ashland Seminary and received a Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio, in 1990. At Trinity Seminary she was chosen to receive the Anna Seidler Award for achievement in Systematic Theology.
In 1988 Betti did her internship year for seminary at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kent and was called as it’s first Assistant Pastor in 1990. In 1997 she accepted the Call as Senior Pastor.
Chris Hazelton and Betti met at Wittenberg and married in 1972. Chris taught fifth grade for South Euclid Lyndhurst City Schools for 20 years, and has taught Computer Skills to 5th and 6th graders for the last twelve years. The couple has three children: Jessica (b. 1977), Matthew (b. 1980) and Nathaniel (b. 1983).
Rev. Douglas E. Fidler was born in Columbus, Ohio, 1956 to Edwin and Mary Lee Fidler. Doug's father a Lutheran pastor moved the family around Ohio. Doug is the fifth pastor in the family line. Doug is the middle of three children. His older sister Mary Kathleen is a medical assistant and his younger sister Lee Anne is a registered nurse and a licensed physical therapist.
Doug is a graduate of The Ohio State University (1978) with a major in Jewish Studies. He entered Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio in 1979. Doug's Clinical Pastoral Education was completed at Riverside Hospital in Columbus. Internship was served at St. Luke's in Mansfield, Ohio.
Douglas and wife Deborah met in seminary and were married in 1980. Deborah an ordained Lutheran Pastor serves Bethany Lutheran Church in Akron. Douglas and Deborah have two children: Benjamin (b. 1986) a student at Bowling Green State University and Joseph (b. 1997)
Douglas and Deborah were ordained November 19, 1983 at First English Lutheran Church, Columbus. The first parish he served was Brandt and Casstown Lutheran Parish, Tipp City, Ohio from 1983-1990. He was called to Grace Lutheran Church, Luckey in May of 1990 and served in that place until being called to Trinity, Kent in April on 1997.
